Sea Turtle Nesting
INFO
You will be transferred to the port of Cañas, where our boat will be waiting to take us out to Isla Cañas. On the short boat ride, enjoy the mangroves and the sunset over the Pacific Ocean. Cañas Island, with over 8.5 miles of beach, is the most important nesting site for sea turtles on Panama’s Pacific Coast. From July to mid-November, thousands of sea turtles of five different species arrive to the coast of Isla Cañas to nest from October to mid-January, when the baby turtles hatch. On arrival to Cañas Island, we will enjoy a traditional dinner of fried fish and plantains, before starting to explore the beach in a horse cart together with our guide looking for the turtles.
Important Note: This is a night tour and only operated during turtle season, from July to January. Please be aware that even though chances of seeing turtles on the tour are very high, since this is nature we cannot guarantee the turtle viewing on each tour. We strictly practice responsible turtle watching and follow international standards. Please be sure to follow your guide’s instructions at all times.
