Badajos’ Route
INFO
On this historical tour, you will follow in the steps of Gonzalo de Badajoz, a Spanish conquistador sent to search for gold in the Panamanian territory in the early 16th century. Since gold held ritual significance to the indigenous Indians occupying these lands, Badajoz was met with strong resistance on his way from Panama City to the Azuero Peninsula.
The route reveals both indigenous tradition and Spanish influence. Visit the archaeological site of El Caño, which are burial mounds from the Coclé culture, as well as the nearly 300-year old church in Parita and the church of Natá, the country’s third oldest surviving town.
